Tourists stopping traffic in the Gothic Quarter, shooting camera flashes, colorful guayabera shirts interrupting the opaque, gloomy architecture, smells of garbage outside Irish chain bars crammed with gringos smoking in the porticoes.
Up there, on the balconies with laundry hanging out to dry, the neighbors, annoyed and fed up with the outside crowds, clinging to the old rental prices, fight for the neighborhood, with a marker on a hostile sign and sometimes a bucket of water to turn off the noise in the early morning.
At the end of Las Ramblas, Columbus no longer points to the conquering voyage, now he only indicates the exit.
